EWFC board held virtual meeting on the 24th of November 2020

1. COVID-19

The general COVID-19 situation in our various association’s member states was discussed and a fairly uniform situation was reported across all countries, in that:

  • The virus was increasing again, and everyone was in some degree of lock-down.
  • The prospect of a vaccine in the near future will hopefully bring better times.

2. Communication and Liaison

The board is renewing its communication with various Members of the European Parliament and future EWFC members.

3. European Green Deal

Importantly an analysis of this initiative had been carried out prior to this board meeting. The document was discussed in detail. The Green Deal is an extremely ambitious project to turn the EU economy into an environmentally friendly circular one. Not only would it focus inward on the EU, but it states it would, in time, require all countries exporting to the Union to meet high, maybe Green Deal equivalent, environmental standards of production for those products dispatched to the Europe Union. The board greeted the whole deal enthusiastically and decided to write to the Commission stating their support.

4. EWFC Congress

COVID-19 has disrupted arrangements for the above but with the prospect of widespread vaccination it is hoped a face-to-face board meeting can be held in the Spring, probably in Belgium, with the prospect of a Congress on the 21st and 22nd of October in Kilkenny Ireland.

All the above issues will be further discussed at the next virtual board meeting on the 19th of January 2021
